Hansel and Gretel
Oh yes it was! Oh no it wasn’t! Well, oh yes it was actually, excellent that is. If you thought that a play about some seedy looking old men chasing two young girls through the woods, was only to be found on one of Rupert Murdoch’s dubious late night satellite channel, then you would be mistaken. In fact you may be referring to Edlesbray Players latest production of Hansel and Gretel. Although not playing to absolutely full houses this year, over 500 people turned out to enjoy the usual mixture of music, dance, comedy & repartee. The old stagers were in attendance revving up the audience as only they know how, but this year (as has been the trend over the last few years) the revelation was the young players. With youngsters seeming only to get bad press these days, it was wonderful to see so many talented, enthusiastic youngsters, successfully involved in a traditional village event. Thanks must go to Malcolm Calloway & Wendy Ashman for channelling the energy of the youngsters in the right direction. As a total of around 100 people are involved annually in the production of the panto, it would be wrong to single out any individuals for comment, so suffice to say we look forward to next years production & hope that the modernisation of the hall will be carried through to the panto. Anyone interested in helping or, who has any suggestions (or criticisms?) please don’t hesitate to contact Val Trantum or any of the people involved.
